The kindergarten of Crosara by Sergio Los: reassessing a pioneering thermally efficient building

Given the environmental and energy crises, European directives are targeting building efficiency. Architects must improve thermal performance of their designs to approach Nearly-Zero Energy Building (NZEB) standards. Energy-efficient experimental buildings from 1970s often held up as inspiring examples energy-conscious architectural design. However, lack quantitative data about performance, measured using current evaluation standards units, makes legacy difficult interpret today. This study aims verify relevance energy-efficient architecture by quantifying an exemplary case: kindergarten designed Sergio Los in Crosara (Italy).
